Our Impact

Started on the water. Still giving back.

Hold an event with 12 Degrees and it creates measurable good in the world — and you receive the evidence afterwards.

We're members of B1G1, Business for Good. Every confirmed event and every mile of every challenge we run triggers specific, countable acts of giving. After delivery, you get a certificate showing exactly what your event made happen.

Ten thousand reasons this isn't a policy document

Plenty of companies have a values page. Ours has a number on it, and it goes up every time we deliver an event. Not a percentage into a general fund — a day of clean water, a day at Beach School, a cleanup station on a UK beach. The numbers below are live from B1G1, counted since January 2025.

What the numbers count

Each tile is a UN Sustainable Development Goal, and the figure is the number of individual impacts our events have created towards it. One impact is one of these:

  • SDG 6One day of clean water for a person in a community without it
  • SDG 11 · 14One day of a UK cleanup station, stocked and maintained on a beach or riverside
  • SDG 4One day of education — a Beach School place, an instrument for a young musician, a girl's schooling
  • SDG 13 · 15One square metre of rainforest protected, or one tree planted
  • SDG 3 · 10One act of care — a Buddy Bag for a child in crisis, a session for an older person, literacy support for a refugee
  • SDG 16One day of solar light or regenerative farming training for a family

Where it goes

Six causes we've chosen — and why

Our giving is focused rather than scattered: six causes that reflect who we are and the communities our events touch.

Environmental action

Cleaner UK coasts and waterways, protected habitats, practical climate projects.

Children in emergency care

Comfort, dignity and the basics of childhood for children removed from home.

Music & arts education

Creative learning for young people who would otherwise miss out.

Older people's wellbeing

Tackling isolation and helping people live well at home for longer.

Migrant & refugee support

Standing alongside people rebuilding their lives after displacement.

Education for girls & young women

Removing the barriers that keep girls out of the classroom.

The 2 Minute Foundation

Why so much of it is marine. 12 Degrees began with sailing regattas, dragon boat races and on-the-water team challenges, so it matters to us that part of our giving returns to UK shores. That's why The 2 Minute Foundation — the UK marine-clean charity founded by surfer Martin Dorey — is our anchor project: cleanup stations on beaches and rivers, and Beach School sessions for the next generation of ocean advocates.

How our events give back

Giving is built into how 12 Degrees operates, not added on at the end. Three mechanisms run in parallel — two of them triggered by something you do with us, one that's simply a standing commitment.

Every confirmed event

The 12 Degrees impact bundle

  • 160 days of clean water
  • 20 m² of rainforest protected
  • 2 days of solar light for families
  • 1 day of regenerative farming training
  • 1 tree planted

Five impacts, triggered the day your event is delivered.

Every charity challenge

Giving through every mile

On our walking and endurance challenges, every mile your team covers funds one impact on your behalf. A 1,500-mile team effort means 1,500 impacts — on top of whatever you raise for your own charity.

Charity-embedded formats also fund a full 2 Minute Beach School session for 27 young people.

Every year we're in business

A Buddy Bag for a child in crisis

Every year, for as long as 12 Degrees is in business, a Buddy Bag goes to a child entering emergency care in the UK — the comfort and basics of childhood, packed with dignity. On top of the twenty we pledged for our 20th year.

Via the Buddy Bag Foundation. Not tied to any event — a standing commitment.

100%

“100% of your contributions go to your chosen projects.”

That's B1G1's own wording, and it's how the platform is built: B1G1's running costs are met by members' annual fees, paid separately. Nothing is deducted from an impact on its way to the project.

What you receive

A Certificate of Social Impact, in your company's name

After delivery: the specific impacts your event triggered, the project they went to, and the total. Yours to share with your team, your board or your own impact report.

In practice

One walk. 1,500 miles. 1,500 impacts.

In June 2026, 62 Markerstudy Group colleagues walked from Windermere to Honister Slate Mine to mark the company's 25th anniversary — three days across the Lake District, organised end to end by 12 Degrees with our trek partner Adventure Cafe.

Between them they covered more than 1,500 miles. For every one of those miles we funded a giving impact on Markerstudy's behalf — providing and maintaining community cleanup stations for cleaner beaches and coastlines — alongside the money the team raised themselves.

Rated 4.88 out of 5 by the colleagues who walked it. The organisation was described as “faultless”, “smooth” and “well thought through” — and the charitable purpose came through as one of the things people valued most.

The year before, the same team walked the Jurassic Coast from Portland to Lulworth Cove: 1,763 impacts funded, and over £60,000 raised for Cancer Research UK.
