Your team doesn’t volunteer at a charity. They deliver something for one.

Every bike your team builds is wheeled out, tested, and delivered to a child who has never owned one. The bike has a recipient. The day has a result. The team remembers it.

What is it

What is the Charity Bike Build day?

The Charity Bike Build is our most-booked team building activity for a reason. Sub-teams of 3-5 work through a structured build, transforming a flat-pack of components into a brand-new, road-ready bike. Frames, wheels, gears, brakes, handlebars, seats — everything assembled, calibrated and safety-checked on the day.

12 Degrees provides every bike, every tool, every safety checklist and a senior facilitator team. We partner with UK children’s charities to identify the recipients — schools, hospital children’s wards, community projects, refugee family programmes, young carers’ charities. Most of the children receiving these bikes have never owned one. The hand-over is the moment that makes the day land.

This is a deliver-for activity, not a volunteer-at one. Your team produces real bikes that real children ride. The kit is designed to be assembled by first-time builders; our facilitators support every group; safety is non-negotiable. By the end of the day, the bikes leave the venue on their way to their new owners.

Bike options

Pick the bike type that fits your team’s chosen recipient group. Each option pairs with a UK charity partner who confirms what’s needed.

Most popular

Children’s Bikes

Standard bikes for ages 4-12. Frames, stabilisers where appropriate, helmets included. Donated to school, hospital, refugee or community programmes.

Inclusive

Adapted & Accessible Bikes

Specialist adapted bikes for children with mobility needs — trikes, balance bikes, handcycles. Higher build complexity, deeper impact, smaller annual production.

Adult

Adult Commuter Bikes

Bikes for adult recipients — refugees rebuilding lives in the UK, mental-health charity service users, young people leaving care. Different kit, same model.

How a Charity Bike Build day runs

We deliver in a half-day or full-day format — pick the one that fits the rest of your agenda. The build itself is typically 2-3 hours.

1

Welcome & brief

Why this matters: the charity partner, the recipients, the build sequence. Safety briefing, tool walkthrough, team formation.

2

Build the bike

Sub-teams of 3-5 work through the build — frame, wheels, gears, brakes, handlebars, seat, finishing. About 2-3 hours per team.

3

Safety check & test

Every bike inspected by our facilitators against a full safety checklist. Adjustments made, then a test ride to confirm everything works.

4

Hand-over & photo

Where logistics allow, the charity partner attends for the hand-over moment. A group photo with every bike. The bikes leave with the partner that day.

Group sizes & indicative pricing

Pricing is per person and includes the bike kit, all tools, helmets where applicable, facilitation, safety inspection, hand-over logistics and post-event impact report. Final quote depends on bike type, group size and venue.

Every bike has a recipient.

A bike to a child who has never owned one is independence, transport, freedom and confidence in one object. For an adult refugee, it’s a route to a job interview, to school, to community. The bikes your team builds change measurable things in measurable ways.

Charity Bike Build · FAQs

Practical answers about how a Charity Bike Build day runs. For broader 12 Degrees questions, see the FAQs in the footer below.

Format

How long does a build take?

The build itself is 2-3 hours per team. Half-day format (4 hours) covers welcome, brief, build, safety check, hand-over and photo. Full-day format pairs the build with wider team content or a second activity.

Venue

Where does it happen?

Office, venue or conference space — we bring everything: bikes (in flat-pack form), tools, mats, safety equipment, facilitators. Minimum venue requirement: clear floor space large enough for the group and 2-hour set-up.

Team

Do we need to be technical?

No. The kits are designed for first-time builders. Our facilitators support every sub-team through each step, and every bike is independently safety-checked by us before hand-over. No mechanical experience required.

Group Size

What’s the minimum and maximum group size?

Minimum 8 (2 bikes built). We’ve delivered up to 2,000+ at conference scale, with multiple facilitator teams and a phased build flow. The activity scales beautifully.

Charity

Can we choose the charity recipient?

Yes — we work with vetted UK children’s charities and adult-recipient partners. If you already have a charity relationship, we’ll work with them directly to confirm the bikes go to their service users.

Combos

Can we combine this with another activity?

Yes — Charity Bike Build pairs well with a wider away day, a conference, or alongside another purpose-led format (SolarBuddy, Prosthetic Hand, Pack for Purpose). Talk to us about combined formats.
